Welcome & Bienvenidos!

Hola everyone! Welcome to my little retreat! 😊 My name is Laia and this is my first post – hope you enjoy it! Now, make yourselves comfortable and start reading…

Since I was in my early twenties I always wanted to write a blog but I never did it. I found all excuses I could: who would want to read it? What am I going to write about? No one is going to be interested… What will people think? English is not my first language so I can’t write a blog… And so on…

For years I didn’t realise what was stopping me from writing a blog, something I really wanted to do, something fun. I just parked the idea in the back of my mind and carried on with my (stressful) daily life.

For example, a year ago I attended one of the free seminar that the Speakers Institute organised in Auckland. I left the seminar feeling so empowered and inspired by Sam Cawthorn, its CEO and Founder, and his story that went home and bought a domain and created a website with my name. It was about time! And here I’m a year later about to publish my first blog post. What stopped me from doing it for nearly 12 months? Two things, I believe: fear and lack of taking action. Fear can trick and stop us from what we want to do. It was fear to leave my comfort zone, fear to be exposed. It made me feel stuck for long time.

Well, don’t misunderstand me: I still feel the fear. But I’ve decided not to let it stop me. The choices we make every day, the big and the little ones, determine whether or not we succeed in life, and it’s often the ones that seem more insignificant, the little ones we make every day, that make the difference.

So, here I am in a moment of huge change in my life and want to share it with all of you. And if along the way I can somehow bring some sort of love, fun, empowerment, support or motivation to you and your life, then, it’s been worth it 😊

How did the change happen? New Year… New resolutions. What a year 2017 was! It was an AWESOME year, can’t deny that! Looking back over 2017 there are so many things I’ve achieved! A year of finding myself, getting engaged, resiliency, family adversities, deciding what I want in my life (and what I DON’T want) and what I wish to create moving forward: be the designer of my life. So much growth and self-knowledge in just 12 months!

So… 2018 is a year of change and transformation. It’s full of new challenges, self-discovery in different areas and learning, something I can’t wait for! My start of the year has been very strong. I left my 8-5 corporate job and I’ve thrown myself into the new adventure of living a life by design, not by default. I’ve started a new venture on the side in the health and wellness industry and done a 30 day detox (clean eating, basically – and eliminating the often needed glass of wine 😊 ). My energy levels are better than ever, I feel calm and relaxed, happy and positive. Who doesn’t want to feel like this?

The tough part comes now deciding what comes next. Wait a moment… I know! Whatever I want to do! Because I believe we all can achieve and succeed in whatever we want to do. So I’m doing lots of personal growth work, looking for new opportunities that allow me to focus on my personal projects and enjoying every single moment of not knowing what’s coming next. Do you know why? Because I know that whatever I choose to do, I’ll be fine. Because I’m very excited to have the opportunity to change how I live my life for the best, to close doors that don’t serve me to allow those which do serve me to open. Because I focus on the opportunity, not in the adversity (in this case not having a job that gives me financial security, for example).

To finish this first post I have to say something… to get to this point took me over a year. Last year this time I left a big corporate feeling that it wasn’t for me. At the time I didn’t realise I needed such a huge change – I thought I just needed to change jobs. However, life is wise and put me through few situation and circumstances that made re-prioritise things and the way I live my life. So it wasn’t easy, it’s not something that happened from one day to another (and my husband to be Lucas knows well how hard it was! The patience he had was incredible!).

What I’m meaning here is that sometimes we need to go through the process of self-discovery before we can make the move. We need to be ready. So if hardship happens in your life, as it happens in everyone’s lives, don’t be scared – see it as an opportunity. Learning to address and overcome difficulty it’s all about learning and connecting with your inner self, finding the energy you need no matter what, and push forward in a positive direction.

So, my conclusion is: don’t let your fears hold you back, find what motivates you and do it! Believe in yourself and pursue a life of fulfilments and joy, whatever it means for you. Surround yourself by inspiring people, have a positive mindset and an excellent attitude. You can do whatever you want to do, you just need to truly believe it! Build your vision, share it and go for it! 🤩

To show accountability with all my statements above, here I am publishing my first post with no previous review from my partner or a friend – who cares if there are spelling or grammar mistakes. I wouldn’t have done this on my own a year ago. What matters though is that I’ve done my best to write it and share my story with you. I’ve opened my heart and taken action. And although (of course) I want to improve my writing English, that’s not the main goal here.

Hope you enjoyed the reading! 😊 Feel free to send comments or feedback through, more than happy to connect with you all!

Lots of love,

Laia x
